Discrimination and Hate Crimes - 1235 Words

From what I have identified on hate crimes in my research, the top two motivations for hate crimes are based on race and sexual orientation, â€Å"In 2010’s FBI report, of the 7,690 reported incidents, 48. 4 percent of the crimes were racially motivated attacks, with sexual orientation bias coming in second at 19.1 percent.† (DL Chandler,2010) Two of the best examples of these crimes are the James Byrd and Mathew Shepard cases in 1998. These crimes prompted the enactment of the Hate Crimes Prevention Act that was signed by President Barack Obama in 2009. Although the crimes are both very horrific and morbid acts in their own right, they were based on different types of hate racial and homophobia. His body had caught a sewage drain on the side of the road, resulting in his decapitation.† (HRC 2014) Police f ound parts of his body all over that three miles of road the suspects were found shortly after the discovery of his body. CNN reported â€Å"All three suspects have prison records, and authorities have said that at least two have the tattoos of white racist prison gangs. Racist literature also was seized from their homes.† (CNN 1998) These two men were John King (King) and Lawrence Brewer (Brewer)and later they were found to be active members of white supremacist groups such as Aryan Pride, KKK. Tattooed on their bodies were riddled with racist and Nazi symbols as well as gang symbols with well known racist gangs. The third guy, Shawn Berry ( Berry), didnt have the racist background and was determined not to be racist in court and because of his cooperation as a witness to the crime was given a lesser sentence. Shawn Berry, was charged with murder and given a life sentence for his part in the murder; Brewer, and King were both tried on capital murder and were sentenced to the death penalty. Brewer died by lethal injection in September of 2011, his last words before his execution were, â€Å"I feel no remorse and would do it all over again.† (DL Chandler 2012). King is still exhausting his appeals but is still on death row in Texas. Why computer skills are important As someone with extensive computer literacy, I understand the importance of being able to be efficient with the use of computers. Whether it is at school, or at the workplace, the struggles and inefficiency I see people have with computers results in a lot of wasted time and effort. The internet, and computers, play such a giant role in the day-to-day life of human beings that if computers were all wiped out tomorrow, humans would have a very difficult time in adapting to life afterwards. If you do not have the proper computer literacy in 2017, you are at a significant disadvantage to the rest of your peers. In this essay, I will highlight some of the causes of computer illiteracy, its effects on people’s†¦show more content†¦If the individual cannot afford to own a computer or pay for internet service, then his or her computer skills will suffer or be nonexistent. Although you will have to be going through some rough times to not be able to afford a computer and inte rnet service, it does not mean that there aren’t people out there living with this reality. Not being able to find a job to help pay for it, or not being able to attend a college to better the situation are some of the possible consequences of being computer illiterate in 2017. Having flexibility with the time in your life can be beneficial for someone with financial struggles when you are trying to balance work life with school life. Any shift that is available to you can now be worked if you are able to enroll in online courses. With 3 children, I find this to be a great benefit and plan on taking online courses for any course that allows it. Violence in america Essay What do all of these scenes have in common: a small figure jumping on another figures head, a man stabbing a woman with a pencil in the hand, and a man punching another man in the face? Violence. What is the difference between these three scenes? One is a scene from a video game, another is from a new, popular movie, and one can be seen in real life. In a popular video game you have a little character named Mario who is supposed to rescue Princess Toadstool. In doing so he has to jump on certain characters heads in order to kill them. It is scenes like this that the government wants to outlaw. How can the government limit the amount of violence a kid sees in his or her childhood because the only way is to remove the kids eyes just so he or she couldnt see the violence? Of course the kid can still hear the violence, so what are they going to do, cut off the kids ears too? After that, the kid would be safe from seeing and hearing violence. What could the kid do after that? Violence is just a part of human nature; it may be a part that civilized humans suppress in order to try to have law and order. Law and order are two things that just seem like guidelines from which a kid bases his or her rebellion. Just like in Columbine High School there was a small group of kids who were willing to break the law because there were restrictions on what they could do. And because they were teased by some of the kids, and to them it might have felt like the whole school was coming down on them, they got their revenge in one way possible. Although we will never know exactly why, even though they left a note, they rebelled against the system like they did; we will never know because they are now dead from their suicide pact. From now on, I think that someone should take threats a little more seriously when it comes to kids like they are. In video games you could be, as the government puts it, trained like a killer just from video games. I dont believe that statement to be true, because if it were then we would have a holodeck from Star Trek. A holodeck is a virtual reality device, in which you are in a room where you can actually touch everything, and it all smells and feels real. Whereas, when it comes to a computer, you cant actually touch anything, except the keyboard and mouse to control what is happening. That is why it is called virtual reality. Virtual reality is just a sub-form of reality, meaning that it isnt true reality. All movies fall into four categories to me: love, violence, humorous, informational/educational, or any combination of the four. Violent movies are the slasher movie type, to me. Of course all types of movies have violence. A love movie could have a woman slapping a man in the face, or a humorous movie could have a group of screw up cops who do the funniest things and, of course, they keep their badges. And in the informational/educational movies you could have a lion eating a whale. All forms of movies have a piece of violence except a slasher movie has a couple of scenes more, and so it is deemed bad by some.Then you have the recent shooting in Colorado. In the aftermath a note is found that says something about video games being part of their problem. After that, the media just takes such a liking to that, and they call for a political uprising just for ratings. When the government gets involved, then things get all messed up and teens usually are the ones that usually get screwed by it.That is why I hate the government and dont want to get involved. When delivering a speech do not chew gum, you never know when youll bite your tongue instead of your gum, not only that but you might end up chewing like a cow if you get a little nervous. Once done with the speech do not run of the stage, stay in place till your audience has finished applauding for you.We might think that the best way to give a speech is by writing one and memorizing it and then reciting it to our audience but this is a big NO NO because when you do this you may become monotone and will end up getting boring, also if you memorize it and for any reason you forget one word It might trough you off and ruin the rest of the speech for you. Remember to keep your hands In motion with your conversation, not all crazy, do not touch your hair and avoid walking around the whole stage as If practicing for a marathon.Some things you might want to remember to do is, speak enough so the person in front doesnt go deg. Introduce you rself before starting and when leaving thank everyone for listening to you. Maintain a good pasture all the time, keep a nice pace when speaking, not to fast not to slow. Have knowledge on your topic, and try to keep eye contact with everyone. When you first get up on that stage, own it. Everyone is looking at you at this point and if you come up with confidence it will give you more credibility. The more you practice the easier it becomes.When giving a speech remember to avoid moving around, chewing gum, playing with your hands or hair, do not memorize the speech, and avoid the usage of fillers. But remember to take your time, speak conversationally, have a good posture, thank everyone for their presence and most importantly when giving your speech be yourself, have fun and be confidant. You arent the only one that struggle with giving speeches but it is the easiest way to communicate with the rest of the world so it is something we must practice till we are confident enough to take it to the next level.

I will try to prove how the paintings differ according to their stylistic period in which they were painted by focusing on how each varies. Along with the differences is a lot of similarity in the themes of this particular work of art. For instance, the way the Madonna and Child are centered and raised above the other figures, and some gestures and symbols are recurrent themes. This continuity in themes reflects Christianities views of the holiness of the Madonna and Child, but variances in the styles of the paintings reflect societies changing views of Christianity in their lives. Madonna (the Virgin Mary, Mother of God) conceived a son (Jesus Christ), implanted in her womb by the Holy Spirit. As seen in several of the Annunciation artworks, the archangel Gabriel approaches Mary and brings her a message of her virgin conception of a baby boy, who is to be the Son of God. The Virgin Mary is symbolized for her humility and purity as we have seen in the Merode Altarpiece, where every item, dcor, and setting is representative of her sacredness and purity. The baby Jesus in Rafaels painting depicts the holiness of Christ even as a child as figures praise Him and as He makes the sign of blessing. Rafaels portrayal of the Madonna and child is very expressive in regard to its content. He uses some of the same patterns as other artists, such as the Child giving the sign of blessing, and centering the Madonna and Child. The artist however differs from many of the other artists who try to depict the same scene. For example, in Hans Memlings, Altarpiece of the Virgin with Saints and Angels (1479), the Virgin and Christ are not elevated above the other figures. There are many conspiracy theories concerning the life and death of Tupac Shakur. Tupac Amaru Shakur was an American rapper and actor. Tupac was born New York, New York, United States on 16 June 1971. His birth name was Lesane Parish Crooks. Tupac was killed on September 13, 1996, in Las Vegas, Nevada. There have been many different stories about his death. People say he is still alive and then people said he is dead. There have also been people saying his death was caused because of his music and the Illuminati killed him.Various conspiracy theorists throughout the public believe that the Illuminati killed Tupac because he was exposing them and also not promoting the ideals that they desired. That the experiment produced two lead him to surmise that oxygen particles consisted of two atoms (he actually used the word molecule). In his writings, Avogadro referred to three different types of molecules: integral molecules (most similar to what scientists call molecules today), constituent molecules (those that are part of an element), and elementary molecules (similar to what scientists now call atoms). His study of such elementary particles was highly influential in the field of atomic theory. Avogadro was not alone in his study of gases and molecules. Two other scientists- English chemist John Dalton and French chemist Joseph Gay-Lussac- were also exploring these topics around the same time, and their work had a strong influence on him. Dalton is best remembered for articulating the basics of atomic theory- that all matter is composed of tiny, indivisible particles called atoms. Gay-Lussac is best remembered for his eponymous gas pressure-temperature law. Avogadro wrote a memoria (concise note) in which he described the experimental gas law that now bears his name. He sent this memoria to De Lamà ©theries Journal de Physique, de Chemie et dHistoire naturelle, and it was published in the July 14, 1811 issue. Though his discovery is now considered a foundational aspect of chemistry, it did not receive much notice in his time. Some historians believe that Avogadros work was overlooked because the scientist worked in relative obscurity. Although Avogadro was aware of his contemporaries discoveries, he did not move in their social circles and he did not begin corresponding with other major scientists until late in his career. Very few of Avogadros papers were translated into English and German during his lifetime. Additionally, his ideas were likely neglected because they contradicted those of more famous scientists. In 1814, Avogadro published a memoria about gas densities, and in 1820 he became the first chair of mathematical physics at the University of Turin. As a member of a government commission on weights and measures, he helped introduce the metric system to the Piedmont region of Italy. The standardization of measurements made it easier for scientists in different regions to understand, compare, and evaluate each others work. Avogadro also served as a member of the Royal Superior Council on Public Instruction. Personal Life Not much is known about Avogadros private life. In 1815, he married Felicita Mazzà ©; the couple had six children. Some historical accounts indicate that Avogadro sponsored and aided a group of people planning a revolution on the island of Sardinia, which was ultimately stopped by the concession of Charles Alberts modern Constitution (Statuto Albertino). Because of his alleged political actions, Avogadro was removed as a  professor at the University of Turin. However, doubts remain as to the nature of Avogadros association with the Sardinians. In any case, increasing acceptance of both revolutionary ideas and Avogadros work led to his reinstatement at the University of Turin in 1833. Death In 1850, Avogadro retired from the University of Turin at the age of 74. He died on July 9, 1856. Legacy Avogadro is best known today for his eponymous gas law, which states that equal volumes of gasses, at the same temperature and pressure, contain the same number of molecules. Avogadros hypothesis wasnt generally accepted until 1858 (two years after Avogadros death)  when the Italian chemist Stanislao Cannizzaro was able to explain why there were some organic chemical exceptions to Avogadros hypothesis. Cannizzaro helped clarify some of Avogadros ideas, including his view of the relationship between atoms and molecules. He also provided empirical evidence by calculating the molecular (atomic) weights of various substances. One of the most important contributions of Avogadros work was his resolution of the confusion surrounding atoms and molecules (although he didnt use the term atom). Avogadro believed that particles could be composed of molecules and that molecules could be composed of still simpler units (which we now call atoms). The number of molecules in a mole (one gram molecular weight) was termed Avogadros number (sometimes called Avogadros constant) in honor of Avogadros theories.
